The short version
lipiX records only while you hold the dictation keys. When you let go, that recording is sent over HTTPS to the lipiX server, transcribed into text, and discarded. We never save your recordings or the text lipiX types for you.
How your speech is transcribed
The lipiX server (Cloudflare Workers) checks that your plan is active and passes the recording, with the language you picked, to Groq, which runs the Whisper large-v3 speech model and returns the text. The text goes straight back to your computer and is typed at your cursor. Neither lipiX nor our server logs keep the audio or the text; Groq processes it under its own privacy policy. Groq receives only the audio and the language, never your name or email.
What we do collect
- Your Google account's name and email — you sign in with Google, and we keep your name, email and Google account id to know which plan you're on. Stored in the lipiX account service (Cloudflare Workers) and its database (Neon, hosted in Singapore). We never see your Google password.
- Subscription status — whether your Free or Pro plan is active. The app checks it with your account identity only.
- Usage and crash data — see below. Metadata only, and you can switch it off.
- Payment details — handled entirely by Razorpay, our payment processor. lipiX never sees or stores your card/UPI details.
What we never collect
- Audio recordings — each one is transcribed and discarded, never stored.
- Transcribed text — it is returned to your computer and not kept on our side.
- What you type or paste into the app — dictionary words, snippets, transform prompts and scratchpad text stay on your computer.
Usage and crash data
To fix crashes and understand which features get used, lipiX sends us a small amount of metadata, tied to your account:
- For each dictation: when it happened, how long the recording was, the language, how long transcription took and whether it worked. Not the audio, not the text.
- Your device: a random id made when lipiX is installed, the app version, the operating system and its version, the processor type and the system language.
- Feature use: which screens you open and which settings you change (the setting's name, not its value), and when you add a dictionary word, snippet or transform (that you added one, not what it says).
- Crashes: the error, its stack trace and the last lines of the local crash log (
~/.local/share/lipix/crash.log), which records app errors, never your words.
Turn off Settings → Share usage & crash data and the app stops sending feature use and crashes, and deletes whatever was waiting to be sent. Each dictation is still counted on our server (length, language, success, and the device and app version it came from), because that is how we measure and pay for transcription and support the app. Raw usage records are deleted after 180 days, crash reports after 90.
Internet connection
Dictation needs an internet connection, because transcription happens on the lipiX server. Without one, lipiX shows an error instead of typing.
Data deletion
Email us from your account address and we'll delete your account and subscription records within 7 days.
